INAUGURAL APN-Next Gen Africa – University Seminar Series – Kenya (AUSS-K)

Date: 12-13th June 2023

The Inaugural APN-Next Gen Africa University Seminar Series- Kenya (AUSS- K) was hosted by the Center for Human Rights and Peace at the Department of Philosophy, University of Nairobi 12-13th June 2023 at the Main Campus. The AUSS – Kenya seminar event was supported by the APN Next Gen program of the Social Science Research Council (SSRC). The APN and Next Gen program established the African University Seminar Series (AUSS) within the framework of self-organized seminars by APN and Next Gen fellows and alumni. It brings together former and current fellows, led by a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to issue calls, select papers, and organize national seminars, with emphasis on the program-supported research projects/work done by fellows and alumni from the inception of the APN and Next Gen till date. The APN-Next Gen Africa University Seminar Series-Kenya 2023 seminar brought together APN/Next Gen fellows to engage in an interactive dialogue on security, peacebuilding and development in Africa generally and Kenya in particular.

For the last 10 years (2012-2022) the APN and Next Gen Program of the SSRC has supported 55 fellows from Kenya based in local and foreign Universities to conduct both individual research and Collaborative Research. Next Gen Program supports PhD students with research grants to complete their PhD.

The annual Seminar Series will act as a launch pad for forming a tightly knit APN and Next Gen alumni network that will organically coalesce into a distinct scholarly community. This intellectual community will play a key role in bringing together Kenyan scholars and practitioners to develop research expertise capable of contributing to and shaping national, regional, and global scholarly discourses and practices.
